Darkseid VS Galactus: The Hunger, page 45 by John Byrne. 1995.
John shared this behind the scenes story:
The “office story” that goes with this one I have told a few times before.
Basically, I wrote a fairly detailed plot, and submitted copies to Marvel and DC. DC cleared it almost immediately, with no changes requested. Then I sat back and waited for Marvel’s approval. And waited. And waited.
Finally, as my window for getting this done in a timely fashion grew smaller and smaller, I called Mark Gruenwald and asked him what the problem was. Turned out there was NO problem with the Marvel elements, but Mark had some “issues” with the DC parts!
Well, as you can imagine, I damn near exploded. My valuable time was being frittered away while Mark was indulging the super-anal fanboy side of his brain? DC had already approved their part, I raged. If the Marvel parts were okay, too, it was WAY past time for me to get started.
Mark gave his approval on the spot.
Nice guy, Mark. One of my favorite people. But he REALLY belonged at DC.
